Wohnort an der Pilgerstrasse (Residence)
From 1946 to 1955, Karl Barth lived in a rented house at Pilgerstrasse 25. The estate abuts the garden of the Basel Mission. His residence was conveniently located within easy walking distance of the lecture hall at St. Peter’s square. On his way, Barth passed the Spalentor, one of the main city gates, as well as the adjacent restaurant Charon, where he enjoyed meeting with students and friends, including Hans Urs von Balthasar (after Balthasar’s lectures on Karl Barth and Roman catholicism).
